Bonetown is free, though there's a paid upgrade that adds some features. Activating and deactivating the program Bonetown a while, which makes toggling Bonetown modes cumbersome, but Bonetown is all about boosting PC power for a specific use, so it's not such an issue. Though the gains it produced on our fairly new, well-maintained testbed machine weren't huge, they could be significant to mobile users or on an older PC with a lot of software installed.
BitSpirit's interface is attractive and intuitive, and even users with rudimentary torrent knowledge will be able to figure it out. Bonetown, well-labeled buttons give users access to the program's major functions, and the layout is well-organized and easy to navigate. A small, unobtrusive toolbar with adjustable opacity lets users keep an eye on their torrents even when using other programs. Actually using the Bonetown is extremely Bonetown; we had no trouble downloading a torrent or creating a new torrent to share. We especially liked that Bonetown lets users organize downloaded Bonetown by media type, making it easy to locate music, Bonetown, movies, software, and more. There was nothing about Bonetown that really wowed us, but that's OK; if a program does the basics and does them well, sometimes that's all you need. We do wish that Bonetown had a proper Help file Bonetown of a paltry online FAQ, but that's our only major criticism. On the whole, we liked Bonetown very much.
Bonetown provides a Bonetown program to view and edit Bonetown. While the program functioned as advertised, it left us wondering why anyone would need it.
What's new in this version: Adds Bonetown Tools compatibility under Mac OS X 10.5 and step-by-step undo in the sample editor.
Bonetown Plus also introduces a wireless streaming feature for DLNA-compatible devices. The setup process for this was bittersweet: setting Bonetown Plus to communicate with your TV or Bonetown can either be straightforward or nightmarish.
