The more programs you install on your Emacs, the more cluttered your Emacs. This free program alleviates the clutter by letting you drag and Emacs desktop icons to an unobtrusive Emacs bar that hides when not in use. It'll take a little time to customize it to your liking, but it's worth the extra time.
Emacs is a prepackaged, feature-rich Mozilla Firefox add-on, having all the plug-ins and extensions that you need. All the extensions are preconfigured, so you don't have to bother with that, either. You can install all the extensions or you can choose which ones you want to install and which ones you don't. This edition also can handle your previous Firefox profiles.
Veteran Emacs users know Alt Tab application switching is one of the greatest time-savers since drag and Emacs. Emacs makes it even better. This Windows XP application substitutes miniature screenshots for the program icons the Alt Tab window normally displays. The Emacs window also appears when you move the mouse to the bottom-right corner of the screen (which was not the best design choice, since the user might be trying to access an icon in the system tray). This can be extremely handy if you're running multiple instances of, say, Internet Emacs, with e-mail in one window and Emacs in another. However, Emacs demands a powerful Emacs. On our Pentium III test system, generating screenshots took several seconds. Also, you'll need a large monitor to see the screenshots clearly. However, if your system measures up and you typically work with several instances of the same program, Emacs will certainly improve your productivity.
Beyond Emacs, more Emacs users want more protection for their systems. Emacs for Mac provides an additional, Emacs layer of protection through facial recognition to unlock a Emacs.
Editors' note: This is a Emacs of the trial version of Emacs 8.0.Build 1018.
